CLAT Exam Eligibility Criteria 2025

Candidates looking to appear in CLAT 2025 must meet the CLAT exam eligibility criteria set forth by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs). Candidates who do not fulfill the CLAT 2025 eligibility requirements will not be considered for NLU admission, even if they pass the entrance test.

Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements can register for CLAT 2025 at consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Registration will open in July 2024.

CLAT Exam Eligibility (UG)

The following are the CLAT eligibility for the CLAT 2025 UG exam.

Educational Qualification

Applicants for CLAT must have completed class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board or institution.

Candidates must get the following minimum percentage of marks in their qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent):

  • In the case of applicants from the General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories, 45% or its equivalent grade is required.
  • In the case of candidates from the SC/ST categories, 40% or equivalent is required.

Candidates who will pass the Class 12 exam in April/May 2024 meet the CLAT eligibility to take the exam. However, such applicants must present their qualifying examination certificate at the time of admission, otherwise, their admission will be revoked. 

Age Limit

There is no upper age limit for candidates appearing for the CLAT 2025 exam.

Tie Break

If more than one applicant receives an identical amount of marks in the CLAT exam, the tie will be broken using the following process and order:

  • Higher grades in the Legal Aptitude component/section of the test; 
  • Higher age; 
  • Computerized draw of lots.

CLAT Exam Eligibility (PG)

The exam is divided into 5 sections and has equal weightage.

CLAT eligibility for PG programs is as follows.

Educational Qualification

An LL.B. Degree or a comparable examination with a minimum of Fifty percent (50%) marks or its equivalent grade for applicants from the General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories and Forty-five percent (45%) marks or its equal grade for candidates from the SC/ST categories.

Candidates who will qualify in April/May 2024 are also eligible to apply.

Age Limit

Similar to the UG program, there is no upper age limit for candidates appearing for the CLAT 2025 LLM exam.

Tie Break

In the event of a tie, the following process and sequence should be used to break the tie:

  • Older age;
  • Computerized draw of lots.

CLAT 2025 Exam Form

The consortium will publish the CLAT 2025 registration form on its official website, consortiumofnlus.ac.in. To register for CLAT 2025, candidates must include information, such as personal information, communication and educational details, NLU choice, and other considerations. 

Only candidates who register successfully for CLAT 2025 will be eligible to take the test.

CLAT Eligibility: Fees

The application cost for the General category is Rs. 4,000.

The application cost for SC and ST candidates is Rs. 3,500.
