CLAT 2025 Syllabus

CLAT (UG) is a highly competitive exam that is taken by 45,000+ candidates. Out of which only 3500+ candidates will eventually secure a position in an NLU. So to excel in CLAT UG, candidates must thoroughly understand the syllabus and then acquaint themselves with the five CLAT subjects outlined in the CLAT UG 2025 syllabus.

CLAT Exam Subjects

  1. English Language - To evaluate the reading and comprehension skills of a law aspirant. 
  2. Logical Reasoning - To evaluate the reasoning skills of a law aspirant. 
  3. Legal Reasoning - To evaluate the comprehension and reasoning skills of an aspirant within general legal space. 
  4. Quantitative Techniques - To evaluate the familiarity of numbers and usage in different forms of a law aspirant. 
  5. Current Affairs including General Awareness - To evaluate if an aspirant is fully and adequately aware of the surroundings.

CLAT UG Syllabus 2025 - Overview

Candidates planning to take the CLAT 2025 exam on 1st December, 2024, should familiarize themselves with the curriculum and subjects in CLAT before beginning their preparation.

CLAT UG Syllabus 2025 for English Language

In the English Language portion of the CLAT 2025 syllabus, you will be given passages of around 450 words each. 

These passages will be drawn from contemporary or historically relevant fiction and non-fiction literature and will be of a level that a 12th-standard pupil might read in roughly 5-7 minutes.

Each paragraph will be followed by a series of questions that will demand you to demonstrate your comprehension and linguistic skills, including your abilities to:

  • Read and grasp the paragraph's core message, as well as any arguments or opinions presented in the passage;
  • Based on the reading, draw deductions and conclusions;
  • Summarise the passage;
  • Compare and contrast the various arguments or perspectives presented in the passage;
  • Recognize the meaning of certain words and phrases in the context of the passage.

CLAT 2025 Syllabus for Currents Affairs including General Knowledge

In the CLAT’s Current Affairs Including General Knowledge section, you will be given passages of up to 450 words each. The excerpts will be drawn from news articles, journalistic sources, and other nonfiction works. 

Each paragraph will be followed by a series of questions that will demand you to demonstrate your understanding of current events and general information, such as:

CLAT 2025 Syllabus for Legal Reasoning

CLAT’s Legal reasoning is one of the most important sections in the CLAT syllabus. This CLAT Subject will assess the candidate's interest in the study of law, research aptitude, and problem-solving abilities.

The questions would be based on texts that pertain to events or scenarios involving legal issues. The 450-word passage would contain certain rules and principles that should be identified and accordingly applied to the questions.

The CLAT logical reasoning section's goal is to assess the candidate's critical thinking skills to find patterns, and logical relationships, and correct incorrect arguments. The questions are based on a 300-word text.

Frequently asked questions

To be eligible for the CLAT , one must have at least 45% overall in Class 12 exams or an equivalent qualification from a recognized board or institution. However, the minimum required percentage for candidates in the SC/ST category is 40%.

There is no fixed cut-off for CLAT, as it changes according to factors such as the level of difficulty and the number of exam takers. For CLAT 2024, the cut-off was around 100, while the cut-off for CLAT 2023 was around 80.
