  • OBC and EWS certificates must be issued on or after 1st April 2026 to be valid for AILET 2027.

AILET 2027 Eligibility for Foreign Nationals

Candidates applying under the Foreign Nationals category must have secured a minimum of 65% marks in the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an equivalent examination.

Foreign National candidates are exempt from appearing in AILET 2027 - admission is based solely on Class 12 marks.

Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO) candidates have two options:

  • Apply under the OCI/PIO category - exempt from AILET, admission based on qualifying exam marks (same 65% criterion), or
  • Apply as an Indian National - must appear for AILET, same eligibility criteria as other Indian candidates (45%/42%/40% by category)

These require two separate applications and cannot be combined.

Unfilled seats under the Foreign National and OCI/PIO categories are carried over to the General category and filled on AILET merit.

AILET 2027 Preparation Tips

Any competitive exam poses some challenges to a student. So its preparation requires extra effort than what is taught or put in the school.

The following are some AILET preparation tips that students should know and take care of.

  • Try to complete the AILET syllabus in advance, almost 2-3 months before the final exam.
  • Find overlaps between the school, CLAT, & AILET syllabi to minimize effort.
  • Leave the last 3 months for mock-taking and refining your AILET-taking strategy.

For better structure to their preparation, students can enrol for AILET/CLAT Online Coaching.

Common AILET 2027 Eligibility Mistakes

Every year, several candidates lose out on admission chances due to avoidable errors around eligibility. Keep these in mind before you apply:

  • Checking only the general marks requirement: Clearing AILET 2027 alone isn't enough - you must also meet the minimum qualifying marks for your category (45% General, 42% OBC, 40% SC/ST/PwD, 65% Foreign Nationals).
  • Selecting the wrong reservation category: Choose your category carefully while filling the application form, as category changes are typically not permitted once submitted.
  • Assuming compartment status is acceptable: A compartment in Class 12 makes a candidate ineligible for AILET 2027, even if it's cleared later.
  • Foreign Nationals attempting the exam unnecessarily: Foreign National and OCI/PIO candidates don't need to sit for AILET; admission is based on Class 12 marks alone.
  • Delaying proof-of-passing submission: Candidates awaiting Class 12 results must submit proof of passing before NLU Delhi's prescribed deadline.
