The State Common Entrance Test (CET) has released the MH-CET legal reservation policy 2025 for 3-year and 5-year LL.B. admissions. The reservation policy outlines how seats are distributed across categories and in government and commercial universities taking part in the MH-CET regulation 2025 admissions process.

The reservation policy for admission to the MH-CET Law Exam for admission in Maharashtra law colleges for both courses is almost identical. This article will cover all the details regarding the MH-CET Law reservation policy 2024, MHT CET state quota, reservations for aided and unaided colleges, and more.

MH CET Law: Reservation Policy

Under the MH-CET Law, seats are distributed for both the three- and five-year LLB programs by government regulations. For three-year and five-year LLB programs, the allocation of seats varies between self-financing and assisted colleges.

MH CET Reservation Policy in Aided and Government Colleges

The reservation policy for admission to professional undergraduate legal courses at Maharashtra’s government-aided colleges and universities, as well as for undergraduate law departments and courses in non-agricultural universities, is provided below.

MH CET Law Reservation Policy in Unaided Self-financing Colleges

The reservation policy for admission to unaided (Vina-Anudanit) professional educational institutions and unaided/self-financed undergrad law departments/courses in non-agricultural institutions is provided below for Maharashtra professional undergrad law courses.

MH CET Reservation Policy for Backward Socio-Economic Groups

Only applicants from Maharashtra State would be eligible for the reservation for backward category candidates from various socioeconomic categories. For applicants from outside Maharashtra, there are no MH CET law seats available under this category.

Eligibility Criteria for Backward Socio-Economic Groups

Eligible candidates belonging to the backward socio-economic groups must fulfill the eligibility criteria to reserve their seats. The eligibility criteria for the socio-economic groups are outlined below.

  • Candidates must provide a caste certificate, a caste/tribe validity certificate, and a non-creamy layer certificate to claim a reservation under the aforementioned category.
  • At the time of document verification, the candidates must additionally present their non-creamy layer certificate, caste certificate, and caste/tribe validity certificate.
  • Candidates who originate outside of Maharashtra but have a caste certificate for any of the aforementioned categories will be evaluated under the general category.
  • Some of the SBC castes were formerly thought to be OBC. The backward categories to which these SBC candidates formerly belonged will allow them to make reservations.
  • SBC applicants will be given preference to fill any open seats following the admissions procedure, up to a maximum of 2% of the total number of seats.

MH CET Reservation Policy for Children of Service Personnel

5% of the seats in an MS quota-approved institution must be set aside for the following groups of applicants:

  • Children of former military personnel residing in the state of Maharashtra (Def-1).
  • Children of Active Duty Military Personnel living in the State of Maharashtra (Def-2).
  • Children of Active Service Personnel who have moved to Maharashtra but do not reside in the state (DEF-3). 
  • Children who have families stationed under the family housing retention policy at their previous duty station for the benefit of the kids’ education; only possible if the applicant has completed the HSC (12th class) and SSC (10th class) exams from a Maharashtra school or college.

MH CET Law Reservation Policy: Other Categories

The following are a few more essential elements about reservation in the MH CET legislation 2024 for some other major categories.

  • 5% of the MS quota seats in the institute’s sanctioned intake will be designated for candidates with at least 40% impairment. Candidates seeking reservations under this category must reside in the state of Maharashtra.
  • 10% of seats EWS applicants would be given preference over the Maharashtra State Quota for Institute/College admission. Candidates requesting EWS reservation must upload an EWS certificate before the deadline for admission confirmation.
  • 1% of the seats (excluding Minority Institutions and All India Seats, if any) will be designated for Orphan Candidates as per the Women and Child Welfare Department’s decision and other applicable government rules.
  • 30% of the seats will be reserved for female candidates. However, there will be no reservation for female applicants in the Defense, Persons with Disabilities, and Orphan categories.
