MAH-LLB Preparation: Section-wise Guide
With the exam on 8 May 2026, focus on revision and practice; not new topics. Below are the important topics and last-minute tips for each section.
English Language
The English Language section tests your comprehension and language fundamentals through MCQs.
Important topics include:
- Reading Comprehension
- Grammar (Tenses, Articles, Prepositions, Sentence Correction)
- Vocabulary (Synonyms, Antonyms, Idioms, One-word Substitution)
- Sentence Rearrangement and Verbal Ability
Last-Minute Tips:
- Reading Comprehension: Read the questions first, then scan the passage, which saves time.
- Grammar: Revise common errors, subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and articles. No new topics.
- Vocabulary: Revise your existing word lists only. Reinforcing what you know is more useful now than learning new words.
- Mock Tests: Solve at least one previous year paper under timed conditions before 8 May.
Current Affairs and General Knowledge
Important topics include:
- National and international events (focus: November 2025 - April 2026)
- Maharashtra-specific news and government decisions
- Supreme Court and High Court judgments
- Government schemes and policies
- Static GK - History, Geography, Polity, Economics
- Awards, Sports, Science and Technology
Last-Minute Tips:
- Prioritise recent months: Cover November 2025 to April 2026, this is the period most likely to be tested.
- Maharashtra focus: State government decisions, schemes, and legal developments carry good weightage in this exam.
- Static GK: Don't ignore it; questions on Polity, History, and Geography are frequently mixed in with current affairs.
- No new reading now: Rely on monthly current affairs compilations and your existing notes for revision.
Legal Reasoning
This is the highest-weightage section in the 5-year LLB exam (32 marks). Questions follow a Principle + Fact → Apply structure. You are given a legal rule and a situation; apply the rule logically, not your personal opinion.
Important topics include:
- Principle-fact-based MCQs
- Constitutional Law basics (Fundamental Rights, DPSPs)
- Law of Torts (negligence, nuisance, defamation)
- Law of Contracts (offer, acceptance, consideration)
- IPC basics (theft, assault, murder)
- Important legal maxims and terminology
- Recent landmark judgments (basic awareness)
Last-Minute Tips:
- Stick to the principle given: Never use outside legal knowledge to override the principle in question; that is the most common mistake.
- Practise daily: Solve 15-20 principle-fact MCQs every day until the exam. Pattern recognition is key.
- Legal maxims: Revise at least 10-15 - Ignorantia juris non excusat, Audi alteram partem, Res ipsa loquitur are common ones.
- Landmark judgments: Know 5-6 recent Supreme Court judgments at a headline level; what the case was about and the verdict.
Logical Reasoning
This section also carries 32 marks and rewards speed and accuracy. Most question types are well-defined and can be cracked with consistent practice.
Important topics include:
- Syllogisms
- Analogies
- Blood Relations and Family Tree
- Coding-Decoding
- Series and Pattern Identification
- Statement and Conclusion / Assumption
- Strengthening and Weakening Arguments
- Seating Arrangement (basic)
- Cause and Effect
Last-Minute Tips:
- High-yield topics first: Syllogisms, Blood Relations, Analogies, and Coding-Decoding are the most frequently asked; revise these before anything else.
- Timed practice: Solve 20 questions daily under a strict timer. Speed under pressure is what matters here.
- Statement-based questions: Read options very carefully; the difference between the correct and incorrect answer is often subtle.
- No blanks: Since there is no negative marking, always mark an answer; eliminate options and make an educated guess if needed.
Basic Mathematics (5-Year LLB only)
Only 8 questions at Class 10 level, easy marks that most students underestimate. Spend 30-45 minutes revising formulas and you can comfortably score 6-8 here.
Important topics include:
- Percentage
- Profit and Loss
- Ratio and Proportion
- Average
- Time, Speed and Distance
- Simple and Compound Interest
- Basic Algebra (linear equations)
- Data Interpretation (basic charts and graphs)
Last-Minute Tips:
- Formulas only: You don't need deep practice; just make sure you remember the core formulas for each topic.
- Quick calculations: Practice mental math for percentages and averages; it saves time in the exam.
- Attempt all 8: These are the most straightforward questions in the paper. Do not skip this section.
Time cap: Don't spend more than 10-12 minutes on this section during the exam; move on once done.
