The SLAT is a CBT(Computer-based test) that lasts for 60 minutes. So an aspirant has an effective time of 1 minute per question.
All sections are mandatory to attempt in the exam and there is NO negative marking in the exam. Below is a section-wise distribution of questions in a tabular format.

Below is a detailed written analysis of the 5 sections in the SLAT 2026 (Test-1) examination. Candidates are advised to look at this analysis before sitting for the exam on December 28, 2025.
English Language
The English section was easy and largely passage-based. It comprised three reading comprehension passages, each followed by four questions. The passages covered diverse topics such as AI replacing medical professionals, a historical context of the year 1453, and Kerala fisheries. Questions were direct and tested basic comprehension, vocabulary-in-context, and inference skills. Students with regular reading practice could attempt this section with high accuracy.
Legal Reasoning
Legal Reasoning was easy and static-oriented. Most questions were based on fundamental legal concepts, with a strong focus on Article 21 (Right to Life and Personal Liberty) and Article 19(1) (Fundamental Freedoms) of the Indian Constitution. The passages were short and factual, requiring simple application of principles rather than deep legal interpretation, making this section score.
Logical Reasoning
The Logical Reasoning section was easy and featured familiar question types. Questions included series, coding-decoding, seating arrangements, and critical reasoning, such as assumptions and strengthening/weakening arguments. The level of difficulty was basic to moderate, and the questions tested clarity of logic rather than complex reasoning.
Analytical Reasoning
Analytical Reasoning was easy to moderate in nature. The questions were primarily numerical and logic-based, covering topics like percentages, probability, and series-based problems. While calculations were simple, time management was important, making this section slightly more demanding than others.
GK / Current Affairs
The GK/Current Affairs section was on the easier side and well-balanced. Approximately 50% of the questions were from static GK and 50% from current affairs. Most questions were direct and fact-based, rewarding students who had covered standard static topics and recent national and international events.
Unlike CLAT & AILET, SLAT exam also has an additional step of PI(Personal Interview) in the admission process. The merit list is released based on the following parameters.
