The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) was established under the WBNUJS Act 1999 (West Bengal Act IX of 1999) and has been awarded NIRF ranking of 4 in 2021. The Chief Justice of India is the Chancellor of the University and Chairman of the General Council. NUJS has a well-developed library with books and periodicals covering a variety of disciplines including law, social sciences, and humanities. The University also has a Legal Aid Clinic, which provides legal assistance to people who are otherwise unable to access the legal system through various means and furnishes clinical education of students. WBNUJS has received the prestigious SILF - MILAT Institutional Excellence Award for the year 2015. The Team of NUJS has won the ELSA WTO Moot Court Competition 2015, by defeating NLSIU Bangalore in the final, held in Geneva.
Programs Offered
Courses offered in WBNUJS along with their eligibility criteria are mentioned below:
Admission to this program is purely based on merit determined through a Common Law Admission test (CLAT) conducted by the 18 participating law schools in rotation.
Candidate has the option to choose any of the two offered specializations. Admission to this program is based on merit determined through a Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The admission to the chosen specialization will be however determined by the inter-se ranking in CLAT.

Following are the PG Diploma courses offered by WBNUJS:
B.A, LL.B (Hons.) Degree: Passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an examination equivalent thereto securing in the first attempt, not less than 50% (45% in the case of SC/ST candidates and persons with disability) in the aggregate. There is no age limit as per the 2017 rules. Those who do not clear the qualifying examination with the requisite marks are not eligible for admission. Candidates whose statement of marks of the qualifying examination is not available at the time of formal interviews are also not eligible for admission.
L.L.B degree: The candidate should have secured an LL.B degree or its equivalent from a recognized university, having obtained not less than 55% marks in the aggregate.
Candidate must have completed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university with an aggregate of 50 percent or has appeared for his/her final year/ semester exams. In case, a candidate is waiting for the results, he/she must submit his/her result within 3 months of starting the course. Failure to submit the result or non-completion of undergraduate course will lead to cancellation of his/her candidature for the program.
M Phil: The candidate shall have Masters's Degree from any recognized University, with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). However, this condition is relaxed to 50% in case of candidates belonging to SC and ST.
LL.D: The candidate shall have Ph.D. Degree in Law of any recognized University. The candidate must have published as the main author a minimum of ten articles in the peer-reviewed/refereed journals having ISSN number or books of repute with ISBN number after the completion of Ph.D.
Ph.D.: The candidate shall have Masters's Degree from any University recognized by UGC or an equivalent Masters's degree from a foreign University, with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). However, this condition is relaxed to 50% in case of candidates belonging to SC and ST.
Diploma Courses: Diploma in Entrepreneurship Administration and Business Laws. Anyone who has completed Higher Secondary Education is eligible.
PG Diploma Courses: The Eligibility criterion for the PG Diploma Courses is Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
