About CNLU

CNLU was established under the Chanakya National Law University Act,2006 (Bihar Act No. 24 of 2006)and included in section 2(f) & 12(B) of the U.G.C. Act, 1956.Extra-curricular activity is an important part of CNLU and the various committees which works for the same are Cultural Committee, Legal aid Committee, Moot Court Committee, Literary and debate committee, Sports Committee, etc. It has successfully issued five volumes of CNLU Journal. The Library has a collection of more than 14,000 books. It subscribes more than 23 Indian and Foreign Journals. The online E-resources includes Manupatra, Westlaw, Hein Online, Corporate Law Adviser and JSTOR.

Getting into CNLU


CNLU Results accepted

For B.A/ B.B.A.,LL.B (Hons.)

  • Admission to this program is purely based on merit determined through a Common Law Admission test (CLAT) conducted by the 18 participating law schools in rotation

For PhD/D.Phil

  • The admission is based on the Entrance Test Conducted by the University

CNLU Eligibility

For B.A/ B.B.A.,LL.B (Hons.)

A candidate for admission to the B.A, LL.B (Hons.) Degree Course shall have:

  • passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an examination equivalent thereto securing in the first attempt, not less than 50% (45% in the case of SC/ST candidates and persons with disability) in the aggregate
  • There is no age limit as per the 2017 rules

For Research Degrees

Ph.D./D.Phil.

Candidates who passed

  • Master Degree from a recognized University in any discipline with a minimum of 55% marks or 50% marks in case of reserved candidates in the aggregate and
  • Passed by securing minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in the Ph. D. ENTRANCE TEST conducted by the University shall be eligible for Enrolment in the Ph.D. Program

LL.D

Persons holding Ph.D. degree in Law with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Teaching/ Research in Law after obtaining Ph.D. in Law.

Or

Persons having exceptional academic achievements in the field of law or interdisciplinary areas subjects having interface with law are eligible to apply. The dissertation/thesis submitted may be considered for the award of LL.D. Degree provided it is recommended by the competent authorities constituted for this purpose as an original and outstanding contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the field of law and other allied disciplines.
