NLU Assam B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) - Eligibility Criteria

Admission to the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Five-Year Integrated Course at NLU Assam shall be exclusively based on the performance of the candidate in CLAT UG. NLU Assam strictly follows the admission criteria laid down by the CLAT Consortium. Candidates must fulfil all CLAT eligibility conditions as prescribed by the Consortium of NLUs.

Note: Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination can also apply provisionally through CLAT, subject to fulfilling eligibility conditions at the time of admission/counselling.

NLU Assam Seat Intake 2026 - B.A., LL.B. (Hons.)

The total sanctioned intake for B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) at NLU Assam is 120 seats (two sections of 60 each), along with supernumerary seats across various categories.

*PWD seats are horizontally reserved within the All India / Assam General Category.

Note: Candidates who do not specify the category as ST (Plains) or ST (Hills) will be considered under the category of ST (Plains). Candidates applying under any reserved category must submit a certificate from the respective competent authority. Defence Personnel seats are only applicable for personnel stationed in the state of Assam at the time of CLAT application.

NLU Assam One-Year LL.M. – Eligibility Criteria

Admission to the One-Year LL.M. degree programme at NLU Assam shall be exclusively based on the performance of the candidate in CLAT PG. Candidates must fulfil all CLAT PG eligibility conditions as prescribed by the Consortium of NLUs.

NLUJAA Seat Intake – One-Year LL.M.

The total number of seats for the One-Year LL.M. course is 40 seats, distributed as follows:

*Horizontally reserved within the All India / Assam General Category. Candidates not specifying ST (Plains) or ST (Hills) will be treated as ST (Plains).

NLU Assam: Fee Structure

NLU Assam is a residential university and the fee structure covers tuition, examinations, campus facilities, hostel, and mess charges. The university also collects one-time refundable deposits for library, hostel, and mess, out of which Rs. 10,000/- is retained as Alumni Fee upon course completion.

Fee structure is subject to revision as per university notification.

NLU Assam: Admission Process

Admission to both the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) and the One-Year LL.M. programmes at NLU Assam is done through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) conducted by the Consortium of NLUs. NLU Assam strictly follows the admission criteria laid down by the CLAT Consortium.

How to Get Admission in NLU Assam Through CLAT:

• Register for CLAT UG (or CLAT PG for LL.M.) on the official Consortium of NLUs portal at consortiumofnlus.ac.in.
• Appear for the CLAT examination on the scheduled date.
• After result declaration, participate in the CLAT centralised counselling process.
• Fill in your NLU preferences and choose NLUJAA, Guwahati at an appropriate preference rank.
• Seats are allotted based on CLAT rank, category, and seat availability.
• Once allotted, report to NLU Assam for document verification and complete fee payment as per university instructions within the stipulated deadline.

Note: NLU Assam reserves a dedicated set of seats for candidates from Assam (Assam General, SC of Assam, ST of Assam, OBC/MOBC of Assam, EWS Assam). Eligible candidates must produce valid domicile and category certificates from the competent authority at the time of admission.
