Recognised by the Bar Council of India and UGC (under Sections 2f & 12b), NALSAR holds a NAAC A++ grade, the highest accreditation possible in India.
A fully residential university, NALSAR admits students nationwide through CLAT and consistently ranks among India's top 3 law schools. Since 2012, it follows a credit-based elective system; students earn 200 credits over 5 years, including 16 mandatory clinical credits.

NALSAR provides financial support to eligible students. Students from economically weaker sections and reserved categories may be eligible for fee waivers and scholarships from the state government and university endowments.
Admission to NALSAR's BA LLB (Hons.) programme is conducted purely on merit through CLAT, the Common Law Admission Test conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities. There is no separate NALSAR entrance test.

Campus placements at NALSAR are managed by the student-run Recruitment Coordination Committee (RCC). Each outgoing batch elects its own RCC, which liaises with existing and prospective recruiters and manages the entire placement process.
