We feel extremely privileged to inform you about one of the most remarkable accomplishments: CL student Manhar Bansal has been awarded the Rhodes Scholarship for 2026, amongst the most coveted and fiercely competitive academic recognitions in the world. It is indeed another proud moment for the whole CL-LST family and a strong testimony to what students can achieve when guided rightly, with discipline and belief.

Manhar, who is a final-year BA LLB (Hons) student at NLSIU Bengaluru, is one of the six selected scholars from India this year. Coming out successful after one of the most rigorous selection processes in the country, his journey from a young law aspirant to a Rhodes Scholar is nothing short of inspiring.

From Muktsar, Punjab, Manhar has carved a niche for himself with his interdisciplinary academic interests spanning philosophy, literature, and the human condition. His scholarly writing has gained international recognition by several academic bodies, including the Society for Humanistic Anthropology and the South Asian Studies Association of Australia.

In the time spent at NLSIU, Manhar has shown great leadership and intellectual commitment. He has:

Stepping Into Oxford’s Global Scholar Community

The Rhodes Scholarship will see Manhar begin an MSt in Comparative Literature and Critical Translation at the University of Oxford in October 2026. He will be part of a class of over 100 variously talented young scholars from around the globe, bound by a shared enthusiasm for positive change.

The Rhodes Scholarship, in operation since 1903, is internationally regarded as the earliest and one of the most prestigious graduate fellowships. Every year, only a few students receive this distinction in India. Thus, Manhar’s selection stands out.
