About College of Legal Studies
College of Legal Studies is the third constituent college of UPES which started operating from Academic Session 2007-2008 at Main Campus, Dehradun. The College is well equipped with Lecture Halls, Faculty seating, Moot Court, etc. The Bar Council of India has approved starting of a specialized 5 year Integrated BA (Hons), LLB Programme with emphasis on Energy Laws. Some of the other highlights of the programme:

Bar Council of India recognizes Integrated LLB from UPES

With the energy sector in India hotting up, and the entry of international firms, the need for specialized manpower is creating a plethora of career opportunities. University of Petroleum & Energy Studies is offering the Integrated 5-year LLB Degree program, which has been accorded recognition by the Bar Council of India.

The unique program from India’s first Energy University imparts legal knowledge with management acumen which is customized to the needs of the Energy sector. Besides equipping students for building career with big global firms in India, it will also prepare them to reap from the growing volume of legal work outsourced to Indian firms.

The program design is focused on serving the legal requirements of the Energy Industry and its recognition by the Bar Council of India adds to the eligibility to practice as licensed advocates as well.

College of Legal Studies is being headed by Prof.R.H.Gorane who has about 25 years of experience in Law and about 10 years of teaching experience in National Law Universities like NLSIU at Bangalore, NLU at Jodhpur, GNLU at Gandhi nagar and was also Professor & Registrar of the National Law University before joining University of Petroleum & Energy Studies.

Hostel

Limited in-house hostel facilities on first-cum-first serve basis are available. The students availing hostel facility (whether outsourced or in-house) will have to deposit an amount of Rs.10,000 towards security* for hostel and an amount of Rs.55,000 for hostel fee for one Academic Year (2008-2009). The hostel fee includes boarding & lodging (to and fro from Campus to Hostel). Students who have given consent to avail hostel facility will not be allowed to withdraw in any case during the academic year in progress and the fee shall not be refunded under any circumstances. Limited Bus facilities on first-cum-first serve basis are available for girls/boys at Dehradun & Rajahmundry. The students availing bus facility (whether outsourced or in-house) at Dehradun & Rajahmundry will have to deposit an amount of Rs.12,500.

Application & Admission Process

Eligibility: Students who have secured minimum 50% marks at Higher & Secondary levels (10th & 12th).

Intake & Reservation: There are a total of 80 seats. There is no reservation of any sort for the LLB Program. Admissions will be purely on the basis on merit and the entrance test.

Admission Criteria: UPES Law Studies Aptitude Test (UL-SAT) followed by Group Discussion & Interview for the selected candidates from UL-SAT.

Entrance Test: Admission is based in merit in the UPES Law Studies Aptitude Test (UL-SAT) to be held on Saturday May 17, 2008. If sufficient applications are not received for a particular centre, the University may change the centre of a candidate. UL-SAT entrance test paper shall comprise of:
