About RGNUL

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, was established by the State Legislature of Punjab by passing the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab Act, 2006 (Punjab Act No. 12 of 2006). The Campus is spread in 47.30 acres of land. RGNUL has a well equipped computerized Central Library with more than 31,000 books and subscription to 102 journals and 15 dailies. The online Journals includes SCC, Manupatra, Westlaw, EPW, Hein Online. RGNUL Library is the biggest single subject library in Asia. Extra-curricular activity is an important part of RGNUL and the various committees which works for the same are Cultural Committee, Legal aid Committee, Moot Court Committee, Literary and Debate committee, Sports Committee, etc.

Getting into RGNUL

For B.A,LL.B (Hons.)

  • Admission to this program is purely based on merit determined through a Common Law Admission test (CLAT) conducted by the 18 participating law schools in rotation

For LL.M

  • The admission shall be based on the performance in the Common Law Admission Test

For Ph.D

  • The admission is based on the Entrance Test Conducted by the University

RGNUL Eligibility

For B.A,LL.B (Hons.)

  • Have passed, the Intermediate/Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an equivalent Examination from a University/recognized Board, securing in the aggregate not less than 45% of the total marks (for SC/ST category candidates - 40% of the total marks).
  • There is no age limit as per the 2017 rules
  • Those who do not clear the qualifying examination with the requisite marks are not eligible for admission

For LL.M

  • The candidate must have passed the LL.B./B.L. Degree examination from a recognized University, with minimum 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST) shall be eligible for admission to the course
  • Candidates appearing in/awaiting results of the qualifying examination being held in April/May may also apply and appear provisionally for the Admission Test, subject to the condition that they shall produce the proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the prescribed marks at the time of interview/counseling

For Ph.D

  • An applicant seeking registration to the Ph.D program must have:
  • A Degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.) from any recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks; or
  • M.Phil. Degree in Law with a grade B+ or its equivalent
  • The applicant from other disciplines must have:

  • Master's Degree in the Social Science/ Humanities/ English Language and Literature with minimum 55% and established research credentials by way of publications; or
  • Passed Company Secretaryship Examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), New Delhi and have been awarded Associate Membership of the Institute (ACS); or
  • Passed Chartered Accountants Examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and should be a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, New Delhi

A relaxation of 5% of marks or an equivalent relaxation of grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ differently abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of Commission from time to time.

The total number of seats for the B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) Five Years Integrated Course shall be One Hundred and Twenty(180). Division of the seats shall be as under:
