About NLU, National Law University, Jodhpur

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) was established by Act 27 of 2005 of the Kerala State Legislature. By the same Act, the National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) established by the Bar Council of Kerala Trust in 2002 merged with the NUALS. In 2008, an amendment streamlined the powers and functions of the authorities of the University and ensured the active involvement of the Government of Kerala. The main objects of the University are: (a) to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal and judicial processes, professional legal education and their role in national development; (b) to develop in the student and research scholar a sense of responsibility to serve the society by developing skills with regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms etc., and (c) to promote legal and judicial reforms needed to strengthen the administration of justice in India. The NUALS library has a collection of over 13,944 volumes covering a wide range of general and special subjects consisting of text books reference books, back volumes of journals, reports etc. The library subscribes to several leading law journals, both Indian and foreign and also a number of newspapers and magazines. It has acquired the complete set of leading law reports like All England Law Reports, Supreme Court Cases, All India Reporter, Criminal Law Journal, Kerala Law Times.

Getting into NUALS

NUALS Results accepted

For B.A.L.L.B (Hons.)

  • Admission to this program is purely based on merit determined through a Common Law Admission test (CLAT) conducted by the 18 participating law schools in rotation

For LL.M

  • Admission to the LL.M. Degree Course shall be based on the performance in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) on Merit-cum-Preference basis

NUALS Eligibility

For B.A,LL.B (Hons.)

  • The candidate shall have passed the HSC (10+2) or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto with at least 45% marks (exemption upto 5% for SC/ST category, declared eligible for reservation in the State of Kerala)
  • Students who are appearing for the qualifying examination are allowed to appear for CLAT. However, they should submit the results of the qualifying examination at the time of admission. If they do not do so, the candidates shall be considered ineligible

For LL.M
NUALS offers One year LL.M. Programme in two distinct branches, ie. (i) International Trade Law and (ii) Constitutional and Administrative Law

  • A candidate shall have passed the 5 year Integrated B. A. LL.B. (Hons.) Degree of the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto with a minimum of 55 % of the total marks in the aggregate [Not less than 50% in the case of SC/ST (declared eligible for reservation in the State of Kerala) candidates].

For Ph.D

  • Candidates seeking registration to the Ph.D. programme shall hold a Master's Degree from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks in the qualifying examination, or a minimum CGPA of 6.0 in the 10 point scale (or an equivalent grade in similar scales). A candidate belonging to SC/ST community shall be eligible for concession up to 5% marks in the minimum eligible marks for admission.

For PG Diploma
Post Graduate Diploma is offered in two streams; Medical Law & Ethics and Cyber Law.

For Medical Law & Ethics

  • Candidates admitted to the Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics should possess a Bachelor's Degree of a recognized University in any stream. Those who possess a Bachelor's Degree in any system of medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, hospital administration or a Bachelors' Degree in Law recognized by NUALS shall be given preference

For Cyber Law

  • Candidates admitted to the Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Law should possess a Bachelor's Degree in any stream or a Bachelors' Degree in Law recognized by NUALS. Preference will be given to those who possess degree in law
