About NLSIU

The National Law School of India University was founded as per the Notification under the National Law School of India University Act (Karnataka Act 22 of 1986). The Chief Justice of India is the Chancellor of the University. It is India's Best Law School and is currently ranked as Number 1 Law School in India. It is also known as Harvard of the East. NLSIU students have excelled in every field, whether its National or International Moots, debates, or other co-curricular activities. NLSIU has one of the best libraries comprising around 50,000 Books, around 20,000 Journals and Subscriptions. They have the subscription of online International database of like WESTLAW, JSTOR, KLUWERONLINE, SPRINGERLINK etc. which contains Articles, International Case Reporters, Statutes and Articles from Law Reviews, creating a priceless pool of resources for a law student. Also similar Indian databases, for example, MANUPATRA.COM, INDLAW.COM have been made available for the students.

Getting into NLSIU, Bangalore

NLSIU Results accepted

For B.A,LL.B (Hons.)

  • Admission to this program is purely based on merit determined through a Common Law Admission test (CLAT) conducted by the 18 participating law schools in rotation.

For LL.M in Business Law and Human Right Laws

  • Candidate has the option to choose any of the two offered specializations. Admission to this program is based on merit determined through a Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The admission to the chosen specialization will be however determined by the inter-se ranking in CLAT

For Master of Public Policy

  • Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of the Policy Aptitude Test (PAT) scores
  • Shortlisted candidates then have to face a round of personal interview, on the basis of which the final selection is done

NLSIU Eligibility

Eligibility for B.A,LL.B (Hons.)
A candidate for admission to the B.A, LL.B (Hons.) Degree Course shall have:

  • passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an examination equivalent thereto securing in the first attempt, not less than 50%  (45% in the case of SC/ST candidates and persons with disability) in the aggregate
  • There is no age limit as per the 2017 rules

Those who do not clear the qualifying examination with the requisite marks are not eligible for admission. Candidates whose statement of marks of the qualifying examination is not available at the time of formal interviews, are also not eligible for admission.
Eligibility for LL.M in Business Law and Human Right Laws

  • As per the CLAT 2017 Common Rule

Eligibility for Master of Public Policy

  • Candidates with a graduate degree in any discipline

Eligibility for Research Degrees

  • M Phil.: The Candidate shall have an LL.M. Degree (regular mode) from a recognized University securing 'B+' grade or an aggregate of 55% marks or its equivalent.
  • LL.D: Ph.D. in Law from a recognised University with minimum 10 years of Teaching and exceptional academic achievement in the field of law.

OR

Ph.D in any discipline obtained through regular mode from any recognized University in India or abroad with relevant experience/expertise in the field.  However, such research proposal from such candidates shall be inter or multidisciplinary in nature, thus substantially contributing to the existing legal knowledge/jurisprudence in any branch of law.

  • Ph.D.: NLSIU offers Ph.D in Law, Public Policy, and Inter Disciplinary. The eligibility for the same is as follows:
  • Ph.D. Degree in Law

The Candidate shall have an LL.M. Degree (regular mode) from recognized University securing an aggregate of 55% marks or its equivalent grade.

  • Ph.D. Degree in Public Policy

Master's Degree in Public Policy from a recognized University with 55% on the aggregate or equivalent grade.

  • Ph.D. Degree (Inter-disciplinary)
  • a) The candidate having a Master's Degree in any discipline through regular stream with a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade and a Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognized University through regular stream shall be eligible for admission;
  • The candidate having passed the Company Secretaryship examination conducted by the ICS in India and been awarded Associate Membership of the Institute (ACS) and having a Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognized University through regular stream shall be eligible for admission;
  • The candidate having passed the Chartered Accountants examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants and been awarded Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and having a Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognized University through regular stream shall be eligible for admission.
  • The candidate having a Master's Degree in Social Sciences, Humanities and Sciences through regular stream with a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade from a recognized University and having a Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognized University through regular stream shall be eligible for admission.
  • Master of Business Laws (MBL) from NLSIU with minimum CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 4.00.
  • Eligibility for Distance Education
    Graduate of any discipline from a recognized university is eligible to apply. Following are the distance education programs offered by NLSIU:

NLSIU Intake and Reservation

For B.A,LL.B (Hons.)
At present, the intake capacity of B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Programme shall be 80 (eighty)

  • General Category : 57*
  • Scheduled Caste : 12 (i.e. 15%)
  • Scheduled Tribe : 6 (i.e. 7.5%)
  • Foreign Nationals : 5

These * 02 seats (3% Horizontal Reservation) are reserved for the special Abled Persons (SAP)

For LL.M in Business Law and Human Right Laws

At present, the intake capacity of LL.M. Degree Programme shall be 50 (Fifty)
