About NLU (MNLU), Nagpur

MNLU, Nagpur was established by Maharashtra Government by way of enactment known as the Maharashtra National Law University Act (Maharashtra Act No. VI of 2014) and the University is the Nineteenth National Law University located in the orange city of Nagpur. The objectives of MNLU, Nagpur are manifold mainly to advance and desseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal processes and their role in national development. The university has developed their own Library in a very short span of time. Besides receiving donation from the Hon'ble High Court of Bombay Bench at Nagpur comprising various Law Reports and journals in addition to permitting the students of the University to use Judicial Officers Training Institute Library.

NLU Nagpur, B.A., LL.B

The multi-disciplinary B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) Course. It follows clinical legal educationa and is designed as per the recommendations of Curriculum Development Committee Report (CDCR)-University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, bringing it in consonance with trends of globalization, pluralism and social integration.

  • Admission to this program is purely based on merit determined through a Common Law Admission test (CLAT) conducted by the 18 participating law schools in rotation

NLU (MNLU), Nagpur B.A., LL.B Eligibility

A candidate for admission to the B.A, LL.B (Hons.) Degree Course shall have:

  • Passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an examination equivalent thereto securing in the first attempt, not less than 50% (45% in the case of SC/ST candidates and persons with disability) in the aggregate
  • There is no age limit as per the 2017 rules

Those who do not clear the qualifying examination with the requisite marks are not eligible for admission.

    NLU, Nagpur Ph.D

    Doctor of Philosophy in Law is a 3-6 year full time doctoral programme offered by the Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Nagpur. The minimum and maximum duration of the programme is 3 and 6 years respectively.

    NLU, Nagpur Ph.D Eligibility

    • To be admitted to the candidature for a Ph.D. Degree Programme an applicant shall meet one of the following criteria 
    • Obtained a Master’s Degree in law) from any recognised University including a foreign University securing with at least 55% marks or its equivalent. 
    • Obtained a Master’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University including a foreign University with at least  55% marks or its equivalent. Provided that the candidate with qualifications in sciences, social sciences and humanities may pursue his / her research interfacing with public policy or law.
    • A Judge who has served for minimum three years as a Judge of High Court in India or Judge of the Supreme Court of India. 
    • The candidate who has passed the Company Secretary examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and has been awarded the Associate Membership of the Institute (ACS) and having a Bachelor Degree in Law from a recognised University through regular stream.
    • The Vice-Chancellor may permit a faculty member of the Maharashtra National Law University,Nagpur to take up PhD Degree Programme along with his / her teaching assignment in the interest of faculty development, provided that his / her teaching assignment(s) and other responsibilities do not hamper in any way and fulfils the eligibility conditions prescribed in these Regulations.

    NLU, Nagpur Ph.D Admission Procedure

    • The admission in Ph.D programme will be through All India Entrance Test (AIET) for Ph.D. Degree programme. All the candidates including Foreign Nationals and NRI who wish to pursue Ph.D. Degree programme at the University shall be subject to AIET.
    • Candidates  who have qualified UGC NET, JRF, CSIR, SLET, GATE, M.Phil.,a Judge who has served for minimum three years as a Judge of High Court in India or Judge of the Supreme Court of India,will be exepmted from AIET
    • The qualifying marks at the All India Entrance Test are as follows:
    • General category: 55%
    • SC/ST/OBC (NCL): 50%
