About MATS Law School:

The MATS Law School (MATS Law School) has been established with the object of providing world class legal education, which aims at preparing legal professionals who will play decisive leadership roles, not only as advocates practicing in courts, but also as academics, legislators, judges, policy makers, public officials, civil society activists as well as legal counsel in the private sector, maintaining the highest standards of professional ethics and a spirit of public service.

Knowing thoroughly well that today, legal education has to meet not only the requirements of the Bar and the new needs of trade, commerce and industry but also the requirements of globalization, MATS Law School will ensure academic excellence and prepare legal professionals, equipped to meet the new challenges and dimensions of internationalization, where the nature and organization of law and legal practice are undergoing a paradigm shift.

Why MATS Law School?

  1. At MATS Law School, Law teaching is interwoven with related contemporary issues, including international and comparative law perspectives. The curricula and syllabi are based in a multidisciplinary body of social science and scientific knowledge. Curriculum development includes:
    1. expanding the domain of optional courses,
    2. providing deeper understanding of professional ethics,
    3. modernizing clinical courses,
    4. mainstreaming legal aid programs and
    5. developing innovative pedagogic methods. All the above are coupled with competent, dedicated and devoted faculty members having sufficient teaching experience in various National Law Schools/Universities of the Country.
  2. At MATS Law School, evaluation methods test critical reasoning by encouraging essential analytical, writing and communication skills. The end-semester examination will be problem-oriented, combining theoretical and problem oriented approaches rather than merely testing the memory. Moot Court Exercises, Project Papers, Project and Subject viva, along with an end-semester examination will be the pedagogic methods imperative for improving quality.
  3. At MATS Law School, steps are taken to develop a serious culture of research like:
    1. emphasizing analytical writing skills and research methodology as integral aspects of the LL.B program;
    2. creating excellent infrastructure (including research friendly library facilities, availability of computers and internet; digitization of case law);
    3. providing access to latest journals and legal databases available worldwide;
    4. rationalizing the teaching load to leave faculty members sufficient time for research;
    5. Institutionalizing periodic faculty seminars; and
    6. publishing quality peer-reviewed journals;
  4. At MATS Law School, we have realized that building world class law schools today will require positive response to the growing international dimensions of legal education and of the legal profession, where it is becoming increasingly necessary to incorporate international and comparative perspectives, along with necessary understanding of domestic law. Hence the initiatives taken to promote such international perspectives include:
    1. building collaborations and partnerships with noted foreign universities;
    2. finding ways of evolving transnational curricula to be taught jointly by a global faculty through video conferencing and internet modes;
    3. creating international faculty, international courses and international exchange opportunities among students.
  5. At MATS Law School, the aim of our 5 year BBA.LL.B. (Honours) Degree Program is to create lawyers who are comfortable and skilled in ‘dealing’ with the differing legal systems and cultures that make up our global community while remaining strong in one’s own national legal system. The MATS Law School students will be trained to specialize in international trade practices, comparative law, conflict of laws, international human rights law, environmental law, gender justice, space law, biomedical law, bio-ethics, international advocacy etc. They will also acquire a general knowledge of American, English, and European Union legal system apart from a working knowledge of official languages of the United Nations like Arabic, French, Russian and Chinese.
