Business and Commercial Law PgC, PgD, LLM
Aims:
The programme of study will seek to determine how the law influences and controls the overall direction of UK enterprises, and in particular how it oversees the executive actions of management whilst satisfying legitimate expectations for accountability and regulation. Key areas of study include: Business Organisations, Corporate Governance, Commercial and Consumer Protection, Legal Writing and Research Skills.
Course content:
The programme conforms to the modular structure, students being required to obtain credits in core and option module study areas, along with, for purposes of attaining the award of LLM, a supervised dissertation of approximately 20,000 words on an agreed topic area of study.
Successful completion of Core studies (60 Credits) will entitle a student to leave the programme with the award of a Postgraduate Certificate.
Successful completion of all Core plus Options (120 Credits) will entitle a student to leave with a Postgraduate Diploma.
Completion of the dissertation (60 Credits) will lead to the award of LLM (180 Credits).
Assessment will be by way of coursework in May.

Entry Requirements:
A recognised first degree in law, or a degree with substantial law content, of at least a good Second Class Honours standard. The requirements of a Second Class degree may be waived where it can be shown that an applicant has achieved a comparable academic standard through his or her past studies and where previous work experience has made the applicant suitable for this Masters programme.
Additionally, candidates whose entry qualifications were not assessed in English, must have attained a level of competence in english at least equivalent to an IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 610 (under the new TOEFL computer-based test, with its different scale of results, a score of 253 is required).
Additional language support for overseas students:
FREE classes are offered by the International School. There are also classes in Graduate Writing available to any postgraduate student of the university.
Legal Practice PgD
The Legal Practice Course (LPC) is the qualifying course for Solicitors. The LPC has been designed to meet the requirements and needs of the Legal Profession of the nineties and aims to produce a more highly skilled and effective Trainee Solicitor.
Research opportunities in Law.
The School welcomes research enquiries in these broad areas. In criminal justice staff interests include (from UK and/or international perspectives) criminal justice policy, the criminal justice system, policing and security, pre-trial decision making, prisons and community penalties, white-collar crime and corruption.
Staff research interests in law include administrative justice, animals and the law, child law, common law of obligations, criminal law, education law, environmental law, family law, housing law, information technology and law, legal history, media law, minority rights, public law and social security law.
In social work/policy staff research interests include youth and community work, community care, law and social work, poverty and housing, sexuality, stress, and anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice.
