Course description:
Criminal Justice brings together criminal justice theory, research and policy to provide you with the skills that employers value, and prepare you for work in the criminal justice system or in related areas.
Criminal Justice is studied as a single honours degree. We also offer a single honours degree in Forensic Psychology and Criminal justice (BPS Recognised). In addition a joint honours degree in Criminal Justice and Law is available. All of these degrees aim to enable students to develop a greater knowledge of issues in criminal justice on both a theoretical and practical level. The course attempts to discuss the reality of the criminal justice system whilst also encouraging students to develop the ability to critically analyse crime and the responses to it.
The Criminal Justice degrees provide a thorough insight into the criminal justice system and enable students to study the core subjects crucial to a full understanding of criminal justice but also allow a wide variety of options enabling students to focus on those areas of personal interest to them.
The degree is run by the Centre for Criminal Justice which is located in the School of law. The Centre has strong links with local and national criminal justice agencies and is the site for pioneering research into the practicalities of the criminal justice system. This hands-on research by staff generates considerable knowledge which is used to ensure that our teaching is constantly informed and up-to-date within all our degree programmes.
