CLAT Section-wise preparation tips

Quantitative Techniques

  • Make it a goal to solve at least 20 relevant questions daily, and time yourself.
  • Go by practicing specific topics for the first two months and mixed topics for the whole of the last month.
  • Diligent practice should ideally prepare the candidate to solve one question within a minute.
  • Memorize tables up to 20, squares up to 30, and cubes up to 20. This is useful in multiple sections.
  • Work upon the variations in the practical usage of formulas. For example, in mensuration, the formulas need to be applied judiciously to arrive at the right result.
  • Out of the 20 questions, at least 10 can be solved in less than 1 minute. Identify the first, to maximize your score.
  • Don't spend more than 15 minutes on this section unless you have completed the rest of the exams already.

Legal Reasoning

  • The candidate must continuously invest time in reading articles related to static and current legal issues.
  • Focus on the legal issues from the last 10 months and read about them.
  • Special attention should be paid to landmark judgments and important cases from the last year.
  • Read about all the new amendments and enactments done in both monsoon and winter sessions of the parliament along with contemporary issues like LGBTQ rights or the death penalty which have been a part of the news in the last few months.
  • Prior basic understanding of the legal issues is a must as there might not be enough time for the candidate to read a passage thoroughly,
  • Improve your legal vocabulary including legal jargon, legal terms, foreign phrases, and maxims, which can also be done by reading multiple passages and revising words from them repeatedly.

English Language

  • For this part, it is necessary to read as much as possible, including newspapers, articles, and recommended study material.
  • Practicing comprehension passages will increase your answering speed.
  • Solve the previous year's question papers.
  • Take online mock tests and check your performance.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

  • Stay aware. One must make his/ her habit of reading newspapers and watching the news daily. The Hindu will be enough and try to utilize the entire free portal which provides current affairs.
  • Basic knowledge of History, Geography, and Science will be preferred as a great advantage.

Logical Reasoning

  • Devote specific time to this section of the exam and prepare a well-organized preparation plan.
  • Since this section tests the candidate's ability to reason, one should not prioritize the factual correctness of the passage.
  • It is necessary to take mock tests while preparing for any exam. This will help in understating the type of questions asked in the exam and also in evaluating your progress. Analyzing the result of mock tests helps in figuring out one's weak areas.
  • The candidate should try and take mock test attempts in isolated areas to replicat the exam day set up, as well as be prepared to deal with any obstacles in the process.
  • This section of the exams is time-consuming and tricky. Candidates must focus on increasing their speed of reading the passages and solving the questions while maintaining accuracy. One must also focus on the easier questions first, and not spend significant time on any question.
